The pool cleaner does not reach the shallow end of the pool, or moves in a set pattern.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

MULTIPORT CONTROL VALVE - This valve has 6 positions

1. Filter - Used in the course of normal filtration.
2. Waste - Used to bypass the filter when draining the pool or vacuuming a heavy dirt load from the pool direct to waste.
3. Closed - Used only if filter lid has to be opened for maintenance purposes or when the pump is sited below water level.

NEVER RUN THE PUMP WITH VALVE IN THIS POSITION

1. Backwash - This position reverses the water flow and lifts the trapped dirt from the sand bed pumping it to waste.
2. Bypass - Used for circulation without filtration - this position is not normally used in swimming pool applications.
3. Rinse - This position is used after backwash to avoid a discharge of dirty water returning to the pool after backwash.

Before backwashing, ensure baskets are clean and automatic pool cleaner is disconnected from the system to maximise the flow rate of water for efficient backwash.

BACKWASHING - Once the installation is complete and sand has been added, the filter must be backwashed.

N.B. NEVER OPERATE THE HANDLE OF THE CONTROL VALVE WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING

1. Select "backwash" on the valve and turn on the pump.
2. Watch the sightglass on the valve. When water in the sightglass is clear, turn off the pump (2-3 minutes).
3. Select rinse on the valve (moving the handle in a clockwise direction) and turn on the pump.
4. When sightglass is clear (approximately 30 - 45 seconds), turn off the pump.
5. Select "filter" on the valve (once again turning the handle clockwise) and turn on the pump.

Nobody paid much attention to pool pump efficiency until recently. Then we got the numbers. Pool owners in the US spend about $1.5 billion per year to operate swimming pool systems. To put this in perspective, it takes 24 medium sized power plants to power the systems that keep our pools sparkling. The resulting emissions are equivalent to 1.3 million cars. Itís no wonder that states are enacting pool legislation at record pace. California, Arizona, Florida and soon to be Texas have laws that require energy efficient pool pumps.
